Harp Regulation in Calgary

I only regulate as a service to the Calgary harp community because the former technician that serviced the area moved away.

Experience

 

I learned how to regulate in 1987 through a harp technician course at Indiana University. I spent one year as the graduate assistant in charge of maintaining IU’s twelve used and abused(!) harps. I have regulated my own harps for 15 years and did a little commercial regulating in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I have not had any official training at Lyon & Healy and therefore I can only do basic regulating and maintenance.

 

My basic philosophy when regulating harps is that I do not do anything I cannot undo. I do not adjust back-plate screws or bend pins. I can fix disc buzzes and some other types of buzzes, but if it is a “sizzle” way up in the action, I may or may not find it.

· I understand that it is impractical for Tisha Murvihill to insure the harps she is working on because of the huge cost of this insurance.

· I understand that my own harp insurance policy might specifically exclude repair work.

· I understand that Tisha Murvihill is not responsible for any damage done to the harp while in her care, except damage caused by gross negligence on the part of Tisha Murvihill.

· Warranty Harps - I understand that Tisha Murvihill has been cleared by Lyon & Healy to do basic regulation and re-felting on Lyon & Healy harps still under warranty pending notification and approval by Lyon & Healy on a case-by-case basis.

· I understand that Tisha Murvihill has not taken any formal training from any harp manufacturer and that her only formal training was a harp repair course at Indiana University.

· I understand that Tisha Murvihill can only do basic regulation and re-felting and repair certain types of buzzes.
